The discussion’s main topics were the Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, also known as EUVFTA, as well as the aviation industry and digital business in Vietnam
The EUVFTA (Vietnam Free Trade Agreement) is a comprehensive trade agreement between Vietnam and the European Union that took effect in August 2020. The EUVFTA aims to promote EU-Vietnam trade and investment by eliminating or lowering tariffs and non-tariff barriers on goods and services, improving market access, and protecting intellectual property rights.
Dr Philipp Rösler met with Mr Nguyen Hong Dien, Minister of Industry and Trade, to discuss the implementation of the EUVFTA and how it has impacted trade between the EU and Vietnam. They also talked about ways to strengthen the two countries economic ties, such as exploring new business opportunities, expanding trade in services, and increasing investments.
Concerning Vietnam's aviation industry, they discuss the sector's growth potential and ways to support its development, such as improving infrastructure and regulations, expanding air routes, and attracting foreign investments.
They talked about Vietnam's efforts to boost its digital economy and innovation, such as supporting start-ups and SMEs, investing in digital infrastructure, promoting e-commerce, and improving cybersecurity. They also talk about how to collaborate on digital trade and data protection, as well as regulatory issues in the digital economy.
